Privacy Policy

This site is run by Matt Hagen, operating as Matt Hagen Consulting, based in Tampa, Florida. If you have any questions about this policy or about your information, email matt@matthagen.co.

We collect very little, and only what you give us.

If you sign up for Field Notes, we collect your email address and, if you choose to answer, which topics you want to read about (Deliverability, Capture & List Growth, Flows & Segmentation, Running Klaviyo With AI). The topic answers are optional. We use them to decide which emails to send you.

If you use the contact form, we collect the name, email address, store URL, the areas you want help with, and the message you enter, so that we can reply.

If you email us directly, we keep the email and our reply, like anyone would.

We do not collect anything else. There is no analytics software on this site, no advertising tracking, and no third-party visitor identification.

• To send you Field Notes if you signed up for it.
• To reply to you if you contacted us.
• To personalize which Field Notes emails you receive, based on the topics you selected.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

Field Notes is sent through Klaviyo, an email platform, which stores your email address and topic selections on our behalf. Klaviyo's own privacy notice is at klaviyo.com/legal/privacy/privacy-notice.

Confirmation. After you sign up, you get one email asking you to confirm. You are not subscribed until you click the link in it. If you never click, we do not send you anything else.

Opens and clicks. Like most email platforms, Klaviyo records when an email is opened and which links in it are clicked. We use this to see which topics people read and to stop emailing people who have stopped reading.

Unsubscribing. Every email has an unsubscribe link. It works immediately and does not ask for a reason. You can also reply to any email and ask to be removed.

What we keep after you unsubscribe. When you unsubscribe, your address goes on a do-not-email list so that we do not contact you again by mistake; that is the one thing we keep. If you want your other information deleted as well, email matt@matthagen.co and we will delete it.

Messages sent through the contact form are delivered to us by Resend, an email delivery service, and land in our inbox. Resend's privacy policy is at resend.com/legal/privacy-policy. We keep your message for as long as we need it to reply and follow up.

We set one thing in your browser: a small flag after you sign up for Field Notes, so that we do not show you the signup form again. It contains no personal information and cannot be used to identify you.

We do not set any other cookies. We do not use Klaviyo's on-site tracking script.

The site is hosted by Vercel. Like every website, the host processes your IP address and standard request information (browser type, pages requested, time) in order to deliver the pages and keep the site running.

Wherever you are, you can:

• Unsubscribe from Field Notes at any time using the link in any email.
• Ask what information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct or delete it.
• Ask us to stop using it.

Email matt@matthagen.co for any of these. We will respond within 30 days. We do not charge for this and we do not require you to prove anything beyond that you control the email address in question.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the legal basis for processing your email address and topic selections is your consent, which you give when you sign up and confirm, and which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing. Our legal basis for handling contact form messages is our legitimate interest in replying to you.

If you are a California resident, note that we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

This site and Field Notes are for people who run or work on email programs for online stores. They are not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think we have, email us and we will delete it.

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top. If a change affects what we do with your email address, we will tell you by email before it takes effect.
